By Secretary Mike Cline
August 14, 2019

At ~ 7:56 AM, Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) for an overturned tri-axle dump truck on Pleasant Valley Road, just east of the Trafford Road/Pleasant Valley Road Intersection. Station 20 responded with Rescue 20 (4 firefighters), Engine 20 (2 firefighters including Captain 20), with Chief 20 and Lieutenant 20 going directly to the scene, and an additional firefighter manning the station. Westmoreland 911 also dispatched the following stations to support Station 20: Station 64 (White Valley VFC), Station 78 (Sardis VFC), Station 610 (Murrysville Medic One), and the Murrysville Police. Lieutenant 20 was first on scene, established command, and found that a tri-axle dump truck carrying asphalt pavement millings was on its side in an unstable position off westbound lane of Pleasant Valley Road, with the driver trapped in the truck's cab. The Murrysville Police shutdown Pleasant Valley Road, and Rescue 20's crew stabilized the dump truck using chains and come-alongs to anchor the dump truck to Rescue 20. Upon Chief 20's arrival, he took command of the scene, and coordinated the combined crews of Rescue 20, Rescue 64, and Special Operations 78 in the extrication of the driver from the dump truck's cab using hydraulic rescue tools and come-alongs. Upon extrication of the driver, EMS personnel from Station 610 assessed the patient, and took him to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. Gombach Towing arrived with two 25-ton heavy wreckers to recover the dump truck. Once the dump truck was recovered, Command 20 released all fire/rescue units for return to service and station, and Murrysville Police reopened Pleasant Valley Road for traffic.
