By Second Sergeant Brian Synan
January 30, 2010
Today four officers completed the certification requirements for Fire Service Instructor I & II. The class started in early December with Randy Isenberg, a Bucks County Community College instructor and Fire Marshal of the Altoona Fire Department, as the instructor. The 48 hour class was very intensive and was challenging to its participants. The classroom time was enjoyable and informative. The participants spent almost twice the number of hours outside of class preparing assignments and presentations as they did in the classroom. The requirements included the completion of twelve skill stations, the development and delivery of three presentations (a 5 minute, a 10 minute, and a 30 minute comprehensive presentation with a completed lesson plan), and passing two written exams. The next day five officers began a Fire Officer I certification class. This class is 40 hours in length and will be completed by the end of February.
