At 14:10 hours, Station 20 was dispatched to 4103 Casta Lina Court off of Bulltown Road for a reported house fire. This would be the second house fire in the small plan of very large single family residential homes in the past six months. Assistant 20-1 marked on the air from his home located across from Casta Lina with a large amount of smoke showing. He arrived to find heavy fire on the entire second floor of the home with fire self-venting from the roof. Chief 20 arrived on scene and established the Casta Lina command.
Truck 20 with a crew of five was first to arrive on scene and setup for master stream operations in the construction driveway of the home. Engine 78 laid 5 inch large diameter hose in from the hydrant, which had to be dug out from a massive amount of snow. Engine 22 was on the plug feeding Truck 20 (Engine 22 would later be relieved by Engine 20). The master streams on Truck 20 flowed for approximately 90 minutes at 1,000 gallons per minute before the large bulk of fire was contained. Following that, two handlines were pulled from Engine 78 and compressed air foam was used to coat the interior remains of the home to prevent a rekindle.
Crews would remain on scene for approximately five and a half hours.
Thanks to the crews from Export VFD, Harrison City VFD (rapid intervention team), Holiday Park VFD, Level Green VFD, Renton VFD (transfer company), Sardis VFC, and White Valley VFC for the mutual aid assistance. Also, thanks to Murrysville Public Works for salting the icy street and providing a backhoe to clear snow from around the house, Murrysville Medic One for providing firefighter rehab, and Murrysville Police for traffic control.
The fire has since been ruled accidental by a PSP Fire Marshal.
