At 3:35 PM, Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 for a report of a smoldering mulch pile at the intersection of School Road South and Roundtop Road. Station 20 responded with Engine 20 (3 firefighters), with 2 firefighters (including Lieutenant 20) going directly to the scene. Westmoreland 911 also dispatched Station 610 (Murrysville Medic One) to support Station 20. Lieutenant 20 was first on scene, established command, and found the small pile of mulch smoldering just off the roadway at the intersection. Engine 20 and Medic 614 arrived, and the firefighters used a water can fire extinguisher to extinguish the smoldering pile. Once the fire was extinguished, Command 20 returned Engine 20 and Medic 614 to service and station.
