At ~ 5:18 PM, Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) for a report of an odor of natural gas in the basement of a home on Forbes Trail Drive. Station 20 responded with Truck 20 (4 firefighters) with Lieutenant 20 going directly to the scene, and an additional firefighter manning the station. Westmoreland 911 also dispatched the following stations to assist Station 20: Station 78 (Sardis VFC), Station 64 (White Valley VFC), Station 22 (Export VFC), and Station 610 (Murrysville Medic One). Lieutenant 20 was first on scene, established command, and found that the occupants had evacuated the home. Truck 20, Engine 78, and Medic 616 arrived on scene, and Command 20 sent Truck 20 and Engine 78 interior firefighter crews into the structure with 5-Gas Meters to survey for Natural Gas. The primary search yielded negative results for natural gas, and Command 20 returned the incoming Station 22 and 64 units. After a secondary search which produced negative results, Command 20 informed the homeowner to contact a plumber to check the interior gas lines within the basement of the home. Command 20 returned all on scene units including Truck 20 to service and station.
