At ~ 5:11 PM, Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) for a report of a house filling with smoke on Braun Avenue. Station 20 responded with Truck 20 (3 firefighters), and Engine 20 (2 firefighters) with 2 senior firefighters responding directly to the scene, and 1 additional firefighter manning the station. Westmoreland 911 dispatched the following stations to support Station 20: Station 64 (White Valley VFC), Station 22 (Export VFC), Station 78 (Sardis VFC), Station 610 (Murrysville Medic One), and the Murrysville Police. The senior firefighters responding to the scene established command upon arrival, found that the homeowner had closed the fire place damper by mistake, which caused the home to begin to fill with smoke. Command 20 cancelled all responding units except for Station 20. Upon Truck 20's and Engine 20's arrival the firefighters opened the damper, cleared the fireplace and chimney, and ventilated the home to clear the smoke. Once the house was clear, Command 20 returned Truck 20 and Engine 20 to service and station.
