At ~ 9:36 AM, Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) for a 2-Vehicle Collision with Entrapment at the intersection of William Penn Highway and Old William Penn Highway (Wendy's Intersection). Station 20 responded with Rescue 20 (2 firefighters including Assistant Chief 20), Engine 20 (6 firefighters), and Squad 20 (3 firefighters), with 1 firefighter manning the station. Westmoreland 911 dispatched the following additional stations to support Station 20: Station 78 (Sardis VFC), Station 64 (White Valley VFC), Station 610 (Murrysville Medic One), and the Murrysville Police. Rescue 20 arrived on scene to find one vehicle overturned entrapping the operator, the second vehicle partially blocking the westbound lanes of William Penn Highway, and a large amount of vehicle fluids and debris on the roadway. The Murrysville Police were in command of the scene, as the Station 20 firefighters and Station 610 EMS extricated the operator from the overturned vehicle. The combined firefighter crews remediated the leaking vehicle fluids and cleared the debris from the roadway. Station 610 EMS took the extracted operator to a local trauma center for evaluation. The Station 20 firefighters assisted Wally's Transport and Gombach Towing in recovering the vehicles. Once the vehicles were removed from the scene, the Murrysville Police reopened the intersection, and released all Fire/Rescue and EMS units for return to service and station.
