At ~12:45 PM, Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) for a report of an Odor of Natural Gas outside of the Newlonsburg Elementary School. Station 20 responded with 12 firefighters going to the Station 20 crew Engine 20 and Rescue 20, while Chief 20 and Assistant Chief 20 went directly to the scene. Westmoreland 911 also dispatched Station 610 (Murrysville Medic One) to support Station 20. Assistant Chief 20 was first on scene, established command, and found that the nearby natural gas pipeline relief station had vented natural gas into the atmosphere. Command 20 found that the venting had stopped, determined that there was not danger to the nearby residents or schools, and requested that Westmoreland 911 have Peoples Natural Gas dispatch a crew to the scene to check out the vent station. Command 20 returned all Station 20 units to service and station.
