At ~ 1:15 PM, Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) for the report of a kitchen fire at a home on Great Oaks Drive. Station 20 responded with Engine 20 (4 firefighters), Rescue 20 (3 firefighters), with Chief 20 and Assistant Chief 20 going directly to the scene, and 2 additional firefighters on standby at the station. Westmoreland 911 also dispatched the following stations to support Station 20: Station 64 (White Valley VFC), Station 22 (Export VFC), Station 78 (Sardis VFC), Station 170 (Monroeville #4), Station 610 (Murrysville Medic One), and the Murrysville Police. Chief 20 and Assistant Chief 20 were first on scene, the command was established, and found that there was a stove top grease fire in the kitchen, which filled the home with smoke. The homeowner was able to contain the fire to the stove area and adjoining cabinets, and upon arrival of the first fire units, the interior firefighters confirmed that the fire was out while a secondary crew located and extricated the family pets. With extinguishment of the fire, the firefighters checked for fire extension within the walls, removed a kitchen hood, terminated electric to the hood and several light fixtures and ventilated the home. Ventilation operations lasted approximately half hour. Command 20 returned all responding Fire/EMS Units. Engine 20 and Rescue 20 returned to service and station.
