At ~2:43 PM, Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) for a report of discoloration of the water in Haymaker Run. Station 20 responded with 8 firefighters (including Assistant Chief 20) going to the station crew Rescue 20 and Squad 20. Command 20 held Rescue 20 and Squad 20 in station, and after observing the watercourse, requested that Westmoreland 911 to inform the Franklin Township Municipal Sanitation Authority (FTMSA) and the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County (MAWC) of the problem. FTMSA responded to Station 20 to investigate the issue, and Command 20 turned the incident over to FTMSA. Upon conclusion of the investigation, the FTMSA Representatives returned to Station 20, and informed Command 20 that a overflowing retention pond at the Sloan School Construction allowed algae to enter the Haymaker Run Water Shed. All Station 20 units remained in service and in station.
