At ~2:20 PM, Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) for an Automatic Fire Alarm (AFA) at the Franklin Regional Senior High School. Station 20 responded with 7 firefighters going to the station to crew Truck 20 and Engine 20, while Assistant Chief 20 and Lieutenant 20 went directly to the scene. Westmoreland 911 also dispatched the following additional stations to support Station 20: Station 64 (White Valley VFC), Station 22 (Export VFC), Station 78 (Sardis VFC), Station 236 (Holiday Park VFC), and Station 610 (Murrysville Medic One). Assistant Chief 20 was first on scene, established the command, and found no smoke or fire coming from the structure. Upon entry it was found that a dirty smoke detector had activated the structure's AFA System. Command 20 returned all responding stations, and turned the scene over to the School District's Maintenance Staff. Truck 20 and Engine 20 remained in station and in service.
