At ~ 6:18 PM, Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) for a report of a vehicle fire beside the Zegarelli and Antonucci Hair Studio on William Penn Highway. Station 20 responded with Truck 20 (5 firefighters), Engine 20 (4 firefighters), and Rescue 20 (2 firefighters, with 1 firefighter manning the station. As Truck 20 was departing the station, an updated report was received, that the fire had extended into the adjacent Hair Studio. Westmoreland 911 also dispatched the following additional stations to support Station 20: Station 22 (Export VFC), Station 78 (Sardis VFC), Station 64 (White Valley VFC), Station 170 (Monroeville #4), Station 236 (Holiday Park VFC), Station 610 (Murrysville Medic One), Station 63 (Claridge VFC), Station 3 (Westmoreland City VFC), and the Murrysville Police. Squad 22 was first on scene, finding that a pickup truck parked adjacent to the hair studio was on fire, with the fire extending into the rear of the adjacent structure. Squad 22's crew attacked the vehicle fire, and initiated the action to minimize the extension of the fire into the structure. Truck 20, Engine 78, Engine 64, Heavy Rescue 4, Engine 20, Medic 618, Support 610, Truck 236, and Special Operation 78 arrived on scene; with Chief 78 establishing the command. The eastbound lanes of William Penn Highway were closed as Engine 64 and 78 established the water supply to Squad 22 from a nearby hydrant, while firefighters from Truck 20 and Engine 78 entered the structure finding the fire was confined to the rear of the structure. Command 78 returned all remaining incoming units including Rescue 20 as sufficient manpower and equipment was on scene, and the visible fire was extinguished. The combined firefighter crews performed salvage and overhaul of the structure and vehicle to ensure there was no additional extension of the fire or rekindles. Representatives of West Penn Power and Peoples Gas arrived to "safe" the utilities. Once the salvage and overhaul phase was complete, and the structure was safe for reentry, Command 78 turned the structure over to the owner. Command 78 returned all on scene units to their stations, and deactivated the command. Truck 20 and Engine 20 returned to service and station.
