At ~2:19 PM Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) for a report of a vehicle fire in the Murrysville Public Library Parking Lot. Station 20 responded with Engine 20 (5 firefighters), with 2 firefighters (Assistant Chief 20 and Captain 20) going directly to the scene, and 7 firefighters on station standby. Westmoreland 911 also dispatched Station 78 (Sardis VFC), and the Murrysville Police for the incident. Assistant Chief 20 was first on scene, established the command, and found that the left front brakes on an automobile had caught fire. Command 20 ensured that the driver was away from the vehicle, extinguished the brake fire with a fire extinguisher, and returned Station 78. Engine 20 arrived on scene, it crew used a water can fire extinguisher to cool the hot brake pad/rotor, and ensured that there was no extension of the fire into the rest of the car. Command 20 returned the vehicle to the operator, and Engine 20 was returned to service and station.
