Vehicle HIghway Rescue Training

By Firefighters Mike Cline & Jen Ralston
May 23, 2018

Station 20 (Murrysville Volunteer Fire Company) and Station 64 (White Valley Volunteer Fire Company) conducted Joint Vehicle Rescue Training at Station 20, with 14 firefighters participating in the training. Several accident scenarios were played out using multiple vehicles, and a simulated victim. Each scenario enable the firefighters to gain experience on a great diversity of rescue and extraction tools such as air bags, heavy lifting jacks, cribbing, and hydraulic spreading/cutting tools. At the end of training an after action review was conducted by Lieutenant 20, in which each participating firefighter was able to critique the methods and rescue systems used in each scenario. Future joint training in both highway rescue and firefighting will be scheduled so municipal companies can gain experience to be more effective at actual incidents.
