At ~11:55 AM, Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) to assist Station 9 (Level Green VFD) for a report of a smell of gas in a home on Old Gate Drive in Level Green section of Penn Township. Station 20 responded with Engine 20 (4 firefighters). Westmorland 911 also dispatched the following additional stations to assist Station 9: Station 7 (Paintertown VFD), Station 86 (Trafford VFD), and Station 87 (Harrison City VFD). Station 9 had the first unit on scene, discovered a leaking propane tank in the garage, and its crew removed the tank from the home. Crews from Stations 9, 7, 86, and 87 surveyed the home with four-gas meters and ventilated the home to disperse the propane fumes. Chief 9 had Engine 20 move to Station 9 to maintain standby until the Penn Township Fire/Rescue units could clear the scene. Chief 9 released Engine 20 for return to service and station at the completion of the ventilation operation. Engine 20 was out of the Municipality of Murrysville for ~1 hour.
