At ~7:12 PM, Westmorland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) to assist Station 78 (Sardis VFC) for a report of an explosion in a garage in a home on Whispering Pines Lane. Station 20 responded with Truck 20 (4 firefighters) with 2 firefighters (including Assistant Chief 20) going directly to the scene. Westmorland 911 also dispatched the following additional stations for the incident: Station 64 (White Valley VFC), Station 115 (Upper Burrell VFC), Station 183 (Renton VFC), Station 236 (Holiday Park VFC), Station 610 (Murrysville Medic One), and the Murrysville Police. Engine 78 was first on scene with Chief 78 establishing command, with no fire or smoke coming from the structure. Upon investigation it was found that an automobile had hit the house, and left the scene. With no fire in the structure, Command 78 cancelled all responding fire units except for Station 78. Truck 20 returned to station and service.
