At ~ 10:54 PM, Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) for an Automatic Fire Alarm (AFA) at the Franklin Regional Middle School. Station 20 responded with Truck 20 (3 firefighters) with Captain 20 going directly to the scene, with an additional firefighter/driver on standby at the station incase Engine 20 was needed at the scene. Westmoreland 911 also dispatched the following stations to assist Station 20: Station 22 (Export VFC), Station 64 (White Valley VFC), Station 78 (Sardis VFC), Station 236 (Holiday Park VFC), and Station 610 (Murrysville Medic One). Captain 20 was first on scene, established command, and observed no fire or smoke coming from the structure. Truck 20 and Engine 22-1 were positioned at the office entrance, with Engine 64 and Engine 78 positioned at the gymnasium entrance, with Truck 236 and Medic 613 in a staging area near the office entrance. Interior firefighter teams entered the structure at both the entrances, and conducted searches of the structure with no fire or smoke being found. Command 20 returned Truck 236, and with school maintenance personnel attempted to reset the AFA System. It was determined that a detector was malfunctioning, and the system would not reset. The school maintenance staff put the AFA System into test mode, and would have the alarm company technicians determine the fault in the morning. Command 20 released all Fire/EMS units including Truck 20 for return to service and station.
