May 27, 2020

At ~ 12:56 PM, Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) to assist Station 78 (Sardis VFC) for a 2-vehicle collision at the intersection of Golden Mile Highway (Route 380) and Fairview Lane. Station 20 responded with Rescue 20 (4 firefighters), with 3 firefighters (Chief 20, Sergeant 20, and Chaplain 20) going directly to the scene. Westmoreland 911 also dispatched the following additional stations to support Station 78: Station 102 (Washington Township VFC), Station 236 (Holiday Park VFC), Station 115 (Upper Burrell VFC), Station 610 (Murrysville Medic One), Station 106 (Oklahoma/Vandergrift EMS), and the Murrysville Police. Chief 78 was the first firefighter on scene, established the rescue command, and found that a passenger car and motorcycle had collided in the westbound lanes of Route 380 at the entrance to the 380 Discount Warehouse. Combined Fire/Rescue and EMS Crews worked to extract the driver of the automobile, while several fire units including Rescue 20 assisted the police in closing Route 380 to all traffic. Upon extrication, the automobile driver was flown by a STAT MedEvac Helicopter to a trauma center. The motorcycle driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. Rescue 20 remained on scene until replaced by PennDOT Crews to maintain the road closure while a PA State Police accident reconstruction was conducted. The Murrysville Police and Command 78 released Rescue 20 for return to service and station.
