By Secretary Mike Cline
July 3, 2020

At ~ 2:45 PM, Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) for a smell of gas inside/outside of a home on Hickory Hill Road. Station 20 responded with Truck 20 (4 firefighters), with Assistant Chief 20 going directly to the scene. Westmoreland 911 also dispatched the following additional stations to support Station 20: Station 78 (Sardis VFC), Station 22 (Export VFC), Station 64 (White Valley VFC), and Station 610 (Murrysville Medic One). Station 610 units were first on scene, and ensured that the occupants had evacuated the structure. Engine 78 and Truck 20 arrived with Chief 78 establishing command until Assistant Chief 20 arrived. As the combined Station 20 and 78 crews were surveying the exterior and interior of the home with four-gas meters, Squad 22 arrived and was placed in a support position. Assistant Chief 20 arrived, took command, requested that Westmoreland 911 dispatch Peoples Gas to the location, and returned all units still enroute to service. After extensive interior and exterior gas meter surveys detected no buildup of natural gas, Command 20 returned all on-scene units to service except for Truck 20. It was determined that the initial smell came for a neighbor's property, where a brush pile fire had been started using a large amount of accelerant, and it did not pose a danger to the surrounding properties and structures. Command 20 returned Truck 20 to service and station.

Units: Truck 20

Mutual Aid: Sardis VFC (Station 78 - Engine 78), Export VFC (Station 22 - Squad 22), White Valley VFC (Station 64 - Engine 64), Murrysville Medic One (Station 610 - Support 610, Command 610-3, Medic 614).
