By Firefighter Travis Matthews
November 30, 2005

Shortly after 16:00 hours this afternoon, crews from District 1 were dispatched to 4279 Logan Ferry Road for a reported furnace fire. After calling enroute with 4, Engine 20 was notified by Dispatch that a firefighter from Station 22 was on scene reporting a working basement fire. A-201 and A-202 arrived on scene taking command and operations respectfully.

Engine 20 was the first apparatus on scene and had orders to take a 1 3/4" attack line through the garage to commence fire attack. Engine 236-1 (Holiday Park) was next in and created a water supply by taking the plug at Laurel Oak into the scene to establish a supply for 20 Engine. An additional 1 3/4" line was brought to the basement area from the first floor by 78 Engine and was to put to work as a safety line for the interior crews. Additional crews from Attack 64, Rescue and Special Operations 78, Rescue and Service 20, Engine 22-2, Salvage 22, and Squad 236 were directed at the scene to provide manpower. An additional attack line was put to use off of Engine 236-1 as crews from 78 Engine and Engine 236-1's crews entered through the front door. While crews inside the structure were taking care of fire attack, exterior crews were venting the structure through windows on sides 1 and 3.

Monroeville Engine 4 was put on stand-by in District One's Station. The Special Operation's crew, out of Sardis, provided air to those on scene while Rescue and Service 20 provided light. The fire was knocked down and reported under control within an hour and a half's worth of work, the interior crews then began salvage and overhaul operations. At this time, all units with the exception of all 20 units were to return. Engine and Rescue 20 were then dismissed shortly after to return to the station to clean equipment. The Service crew and A-201 & 202 remained on scene to finish the investigation of the fire. All units were back in-service around 19:30.
