December 15, 2005

On Saturday, December 10th the Murrysville Volunteer Fire Company held its annual Christmas party at Delmont VFD social hall. After greetings from the Company President Ted Heider and a blessing from FD Chaplain Pastor Dan Lawrence, all in attendance enjoyed some good food and fellowship. Santa Claus arrived shortly after the meal and the children in attendance received gifts.

The President recognized Leo Ciaramitaro, an honorary member of MVFC, who recently returned from duty in Iraq. Leo presented the FD with a flag that had been flown in Iraq as well as a certificate and picture of the flag being flown. He shared that he and his fellow troops appreciated the care packages sent by MVFC while they were serving our country overseas. President Heider also recognized Mike Roth, an active member of the FD, who is on leave from the Air Force.

President Heider recognized Detective John Verner for his service to the Fire Department over the years. On behalf of Murrysville Volunteer Fire Company, the President presented Bill Ferri, a Murrysville Councilman, a check for $1,000 to be used towards the Murrysville Tree Sign project. MVFC member Alan Bartholomae was recognized with a plaque for his 25 years of service to the department. Mayor Joyce Somers read the Oath of Office for all 2006 Line Officers and Company Officers and swore the officers in.

The highlight of the evening was when Mayor Somers read a proclamation and presented plaques to Nina Hamm and Kathleen Holmes who, while riding their bikes this past June, noticed smoke coming from a residence on Woodland Drive. The girls notified the residents of the home who got out safely without injury. The fire department also gave the girls plaques recognizing them for helping those in time of need. The girls received a standing ovation from those in attendance.
