By Secretary Mike Cline
August 21, 2020

At ~ 11:04 AM, Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) for a single vehicle collision with entrapment on Sardis Road just south of Sloan School and the Murrysville Municipal Building. Station 20 responded with Rescue 20 (4 firefighters including Captain 20), Engine 20 (3 firefighters including Lieutenant 20), with 3 firefighters (including Assistant Chief 20 and Sergeant 20) going directly to the scene. Westmoreland 911 also dispatched the following stations to support Station 20: Station 78 (Sardis VFC), Station 64 (White Valley VFC), Station 610 (Murrysville Medic One), and the Murrysville Police. Station 20 firefighters were the first rescue personnel on scene, with Assistant Chief 20 establishing command. Command 20 found that an automobile traveling north on Sardis Road had gone off the road, jumping the guardrail, hitting a tree, landing on the guardrail, and entrapping the operator. While Station 610 EMS Personnel assessed and stabilized the vehicle operator, while the combined Station 20/78/64 Fire/Rescue Personnel stabilized the vehicle, and using hydraulic and battery powered extrication tools opened up the automobile for removal of the operator. Upon extrication, Medic 611 transported the operator to a local trauma center. Once the operator was transported, Command 20 released all units except for Rescue 20 and Support 610. Wally's Transport recovered the vehicle, and Command 20 returned Rescue 20 and Support 610 once the recovery was complete.
