At ~1:54 PM, Westmoreland 911 dispatched Station 20 (Murrysville VFC) for a report of the odor of natural gas coming from the Tedesco Body Shop Training Facility on William Penn Highway. Station 20 responded with Engine 20 (4 firefighters), Truck 20 (4 firefighters including Assistant Chief 20), with Chief 20 going directly to the scene, and 2 firefighters on station standby in case additional apparatus was needed at the scene. Westmoreland 911 also dispatched the following additional stations to support Station 20: Station 22 (Export VFC), Station 64 (White Valley VFC), Station 78 (Sardis VFC), Station 610 (Murrysville Medic One), and Station 3 (Westmoreland 911). Truck 20 arrived on scene. Additional units arrived on scene, and were positioned around the structure, while Truck 20 extended its 100-foot ladder to gain access to the structure's roof. Teams of firefighters accessed the structure's roof and entered the structure with Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and 4-Gas Meters to search for the source of the natural gas leak. Command 20 requested Westmoreland 911 have Peoples Gas dispatch technicians to assist in assessing the gas leak, and the ventilated the structure using Vent 3. Upon their Command 20 turned the scene over to the Peoples Gas Representatives. Truck 20 and Engine 20 returned to service and station.
