| The month of December has kept the volunteers of Station 20 very busy so far. A total of 29 runs have been recorded and we are not even halfway through the month. A few notable calls have been the oil mister fire at the MSA machine shop, the Sardis Road head-on accident, and the AFA at Redstone Highlands that turned out to be a smoke in the structure call.
On Wednesday, December 9th, members were kept busy by high winds that pounded the area. A total of 8 weather related calls occurred between 15:30 and 23:30 hours. The calls consisted of trees down, wires down, trees and wires down together, a tree on a house, and road closure/traffic control.
On Saturday, December 12th, members were treated to the annual Christmas party at the Delmont VFD Social Hall. Our sister company, Station 78, stood by for us so that we could enjoy the Christmas party. A few awards were handed out at the event. Mr. Jim Fox from Fox's Pizza received the Patron of the Year Award for always willing to help out the company with our carnival needs. Chief Al Dover received the 25 Year Service Recognition Award. This year all members received new job shirts in appreciation of the amount of training that has been accomplished over the past year and a half. Stay tuned for an article detailing all of our accomplishments! Also, a special thanks goes out to Murrysville Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer Tom McGuire for playing the role of Santa Claus again this year. The children of the fire company had a great time and always look forward to seeing Santa Claus!
At 07:44 hours yesterday, Rescue 20 was dispatched to a vehicle accident with entrapment in front of Rick's Pizza Pub on Route 22 assisting Station 64. Due to severe ice conditions on the road, Rescue 20's chains were put on before it hit the treacherous roadways. While enroute to the entrapment call, Portable 20-204 reported a multi-vehicle accident involving at least 6 vehicles with injuries and one vehicle over a hillside on Logans Ferry Road in the area of Calton Drive. Nearing the intersection of Route 22 and Tarr Hollow Road, Chief 64 advised Rescue 20 that the patient in the accident near Rick's had succumbed to their injuries. At this point, the Rescue turned around and proceeded back towards Logans Ferry Road. Due to an accident on the bridge leading to Logans Ferry Road, the Rescue was unable to make it to the accident scene. Crew members that are cross trained as EMT's were sent on foot to the accident scene to begin triaging patients until ambulances could arrive on scene. Other members handled closing Route 22 Westbound at Old William Penn Highway for Monroeville while they handled a multi-vehicle accident. A few other weather related crashes were also handled. A few members did suffer minor injuries from slip and fall accidents. Also, a few personal vehicles suffered some scrapes and dings while members were cautiously trying to make their way to the station. Thanks to everyone that responded or at least tried to respond! A good job was done by all. |
